Brooklands Farm decision. Shropshire Council. Unanimous rejection.

The planning sub-committee at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury unanimously rejected Dart Energy's proposal to drill for gas on Brooklands Farm.  The paid officials were all recommending that the decision should be the other way.

Local residents and workers on the road next to the proposed site yesterday.

The reasons given by the councillors for refusal were technically not considered good enough by the Council's legal team, and another meeting of the planning sub-committee will be held in the next few weeks for the reasons given to be phrased in the correct planning jargon.

From there who knows what will happen?

Dart Energy could appeal.  The Council could appeal to a higher court and so on.

The war is not over yet, but an important battle won.

Well done everybody.

Let's hope Owen Paterson spits into his soup when he hears the news.  I can't see anyone voting for him to remain our local MP next May.  His behaviour has been appalling over this.

Credit to Councillor Keith Barrow for taking a stand on this issue in the media, and Cllr Steve Davenport for his continual campaigning and speaking today so persuasively on this issue.

Listen to Keith Barrow Leader of Shropshire County Council. expressing his concerns regarding the proposed drilling for CBM in Dudleston. He has great concerns that the area is unsuitable, concerned for local residents , concerns for future generations. He does not support this.... go to 2hr 36mins to hear what he has to say....

REPORT FROM FRACKFREEDUDLESTON

At the Planning North Council special meeting today at Shire Hall, the councillors voted UNANIMOUSLY to reject the application.  Then the legal advice followed that they couldn't reject the application because they were in direct opposition to the advice from the planning officer.  The motion was then adjusted to be one of the council being minded to reject which means that it isn't quite over yet, but it nearly is.  It would appear that the planning officers now have to find reasons to support the rejecting the application and then there will be a further planning meeting to settle the final outcome.
So we are not there yet.
We will be working towards a total rejection.  The fact that the people of this area have been so united and so actively involved in the planning consultation process has been one of the biggest factors in getting this far.

  2. Delightful news, but now is not the time for gratification nor complacency. The good fight must be fought to its conclusion and The Tap kept flowing.

There are people who see things that are unjust,
    that need to be changed,
that are clearly wrong and say:
"That's life, there's nothing I can do about it."
    They are complacent,
    accepting,
content with the status quo no matter
how fucked up the status quo is.

I'm not one of those people.

Hi Tap, Congratulations must be in order for yourself and other activists.
However do not let your guard down, they will try again in another guise.

    Just a thought!..
But I seem to remember that when Agenda 21 came on the books all councils had to have an Agenda 21 Officer to advise the council on Agenda 21 rules.
I remember fighting an allotment closure plan in Leeds over 10 years ago on such an issue and we won.
But one rule I remember was NOBODY can have a development where the majority of local people object to it. I believe now Dart Energy should be made to pay for a local referendum if they wish to go ahead ???
So that leaves the government with the option to back Agenda 21 or drop it from the Statue Book.

  5. I am sure that the views of local people carry much weight in planning decisions, legally speaking. But politically if the nation stirs over an issue and it\s affecting politics, things get dropped. At this moment the only party opposing fracking is the EU-supporting, paedophile, Communist Green Party. Where is UKIP? This should be their baby.

We know they're meeting with Murdoch. The political system offers us nothing. So we take to the streets.

Wonderful news indeed Henry and much credit to yourself via this forum and to all others whatever role they have played. I keep on spreading the news on Twitter and it's true the "common people' in this country ARE waking up and realising the govt's./WM are not our friends or benevolent guardians etc., they are very much the opposite in fact.
This initial outcome is a perfect example of what people are capable of achieving by pulling together in a common cause. More power to you all!
