MY COMMENT: For what it's worth, the Exif is intact. Exif data gets embedded in every image by every camera and includes the circumstances under which the photo was taken. It can be viewed by saving the image to the left to your desktop, and then right clicking it and selecting image properties. Hit the details tab. You can see that the image was taken on March 18 with an Iphone 5, with the ISO at 3200 and a shutter of 1/15. It states no flash was used, which is the only oddity here. But the coordinates are included in the exif data because the Iphone knows where it is, and the coordinates are for Diego Garcia.
Obviously I cannot confirm this 100 percent as real, but I do know that exif can't be rewritten with common software, it can only be added to with some applications and that photos with the exif intact will hold up in court. If the Exif is hacked and this is not real, the CIA or a really good hacker did this, which I doubt, I'd say it's probably real.
Surrounding this story is the fact that the man who managed to get this information to Farganne was harassed and received many threatening voice mails over it, that is another piece of evidence pointing to this as being real. One thing is certain, once it's posted here on this site the genie is OUT OF THE BOTTLE.
I cannot stress how important it is that the GPS coordinates in the photo do not perfectly match what Google says, because it proves that the source of those coordinates did not come from google, they really did come from the imaging device.

I'm not sure about this one at all. I published it and the readers are coming in fast, but the character of Philip Wood seems strangely sterile. Why would hoaxers work this one up? I suppose if they did fly the plane to Diego Garcia, this is a way to make it seem like only foolish conspiracy theorists say it went there, and look how wrong they can be, falling for simple hoaxers. It tends to suggest the plane did go there, whichever way around you look at it.

I've never tried putting a cellphone in such a place. Airport pat downs don't normally go there. It's a good place to try hiding one from that point of view.

ReplyDeleteThe article has many flaws: EXIF data can easily be edited, sending a failed picture without a flash was defeating the object unless he really couldn't risk the flash being seen - but the light of the iPhone would still have given him away, it's unlikely that someone could "hide" an iPhone 5 in their bum (unless they meant down the seat of their pants), it seems strange that if he was blindfolded his hands would have been bound too, it doesn't make sense wasting time and battery life writing your name when it would be in the header of a message that you're sending to someone you know anyway, and I was immediately struck by how much info this person was able to clearly and accurately write especially considering he had been drugged and blindfolded!

Assuming his battery hadn't died straight away, I would have sent e-mails, FB and Twitter posts as well as texts to as many people as possible. Strikingly there is an emergency language missing from the message! No words of help or to raise the alarm and the message is impersonal, I presume it was sent to someone he knew and trusted!
This smacks of a double bluff!
The reasoning behind the coordinates adding credence to the story doesn't stack up for me. Saying it must be true as they haven't used the coordinates that would come up on Google if you did a search is some half assed logic. It would be far too obvious to use the first result in a google search. You can get coordinates for any place on earth by clicking on Google Maps (I expect others too) so they could have chosen any spot on DG (or anywhere else), got the coordinates, and added them to the EXIF data.

On the picture in question the Lat & Long in in the Exif but an iPhone will always also put in the Altitude, Image Direction and Time Stamp which this picture does not have in the Exif data.

Hi. The instructions you gave for the photo im assuming are for people working on a windows pc.
ReplyDeleteI've just had a look for the GPS properties on my mac and what i noticed is that when you look for the gps properties on mac, a small map comes up underneath pinpointing where the photo was taken.
I clicked 'locate' below the small map and a larger window of maps opened and i was able to look at the satelite version.
There is a group of 4 or 5 white rectangular buildings next to what looks like an airstrip and the pin is coming out of one of these buildings....
I checked out the coordinates on google and i think the reason that its a bit off is the location data of a photo from an iphone comes from APPLE maps as opposed to google maps.
I dont know the first thing about technology but im thinking that the location data you would get in a photo SENT is usually the EXACT spot where you took it on an iphone.
For example, any of you that have an iPhone will probably have had a look on the bit in 'photos' where it shows a red pin for every place you took a photo.
Im pretty sure it kind of just records the information of exactly where you are, but obviously this can be difficult to translate onto another map as the coordinates listen in the photo properties have to be 'listed' as it were.
If you look at the one on apple maps there is literally one of those red pins coming directly from a building on the island.
So im thinking... it would be completely impossible for someone to find those coordinates on google maps.
The only possibility i can think to get that pin to drop on the island is to have taken a picture in that exact spot yourself. Basically, theres 3 possibilities:
1) That image was taken by Phillip Wood from inside that building and all the above stated is true.
(dont know where he might be now)
2) That image was taken by someone else from inside that building and the whole thing is a red herring because there never actually was a flight MH370 and it was all some ellaborate hoax to distract he world for a coupple of weeks.
3) An image was taken by someone from inside that building, shared somehow or sent to someone (or something, im NOT tech wise)
and the gps coordinates were copied and applied to a black picture
(again, no idea if this is even possible) and for whatever reason someone somewhere is having a good ol' laugh at us.
I am thinking this one is a bit tricky though.
so anyway, if you have a macbook... LOOK IT UP.
i dont actually have an iPhone anymore so i dont know if it works in apple maps on the iphone but give it a go anyway.
