Wingfield Arms Nightmare

Wingfield Arms, Montford Bridge, Shropshire

I'm writing personal today. England's at it again. I never cease to be shocked at how rude people have become in Britain these days. After five years away living amongst a very cultured people, it stands out a mile.

We had a rotten experience at lunch today. Very rude owner. not impressed. She should take a lesson in how to handle customers, take her time and speak in words that might be comprehensible. She walked over, grabbed my three year old's toys from the floor next to our table, where he was playing contendedly and quietly, and crashed them on the table in front of Shane, and walked off. We were both so shocked. Having no idea who the person was, we just sat open-mouthed.

Shane was then spoken to very rudely in the C.R., which had been left in poor condition by an earlier visitor. Presumably the verbal assailant was another guest of the establishment. Mind you, it could be a case of the sign you see in some places - 'If you think the waitress is rude, you should see the manager'!

Even toilet behaviour seems to have collapsed in Britain, along with basic manners.

MY MAIN THOUGHT - Why pretend to run a family friendly pub, when you clearly are not family friendly at all? I don't think I'll be calling in again. The big sign hanging outside the pub saying 'Families Welcome' needs adjusting. Just add the word 'NOT'.

Back to politics.

It doesn't surprise me, it's all too common nowadays. One of my relatives was considering returning here after many years away, but after an extended stay he's now looking elsewhere because was not at all impressed with the direction things have taken here.

I guess you're looking forward to your next trip to the PI Tap.

I received the following by email yesterday:

Oh BRITAIN, where did we go wrong

We're "broke" and can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, and Homeless etc.?

Are you aware of the following?

The British Government provides the following financial assistance:-

* BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER - (bearing in mind they worked hard paid their Income Tax and National Insurance contributions to the British Government all their working lives.) Weekly allowance: £106.00
* IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN - (No Income Tax or National Insurance contributions whatsoever) Weekly allowance: £250.00

* BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER - Weekly Spouse allowance: £25.00
* ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN - Weekly Spouse allowance: £225.00

* BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER - Additional weekly hardship allowance £0.00
* ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN - Additional weekly hardship allowance £100.00

A British old age pensioner is no less hard up than an illegal immigrant or refugee yet receives nothing!

* BRITISH OLD AGED PENSIONER TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT - £6,000
* ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS/REFUGEES LIVING IN BRITAIN TOTAL YEARLY BENEFIT - £29,900

Please read all and then forward to all your contacts so that we can lobby for a decent state pension.
After all, the average pensioner has paid taxes and contributed to the growth of this country for the last 40 to 60 years.
Sad isn't it? It's about time we put our own people first.

Most people won't have the guts to forward this.

Dear Tapestry.

Just a quiet word in your ear.

Never build up a following and then squander it on small person upsets.

The next thing you know you will be telling us about how your wife didn't get your boiled egg just right.

Maybe you're right, georgesilver! It's just a blog, you know. I have to write what's on my mind each day. On Monday morning it'll be back to business as usual.

Sometimes it's good to be mundane. I can't write only about alien terrorism or 911 as of late. Sometimes a bad trip in a restaurant brings the big scene items into perspective. As you say, looking out into your garden, life has to go on regardless, and it does. We all need to ground occasionally.
